Congratulations #014 Kurt Worden!

At aproximately 54 hours into the rally, Kurt Worden became the first finisher of BMR2020. He's the first of many to come, -but finishing in such short order is very impressive. Also impressive is the ride he took to get the points. It included multiple western states, snow, locus and maybe even famine, all on a tiny Ninja moto-bike. Nice job Kurt

Theme Tally, Activity Reports and 3-Day Rally Status ..these reports are now live on the BMR website. You can find all these reports and more on the scoring tab.

Another Year of Great Folks! See some of your peers!

There will be much more to report in the coming days, as the first three day rally takes shape, and we take inventory of how riders are attacking the various themes. Topic for next newsletter will include: In BMR Bonus Submission, when do you want your motorcycle between you and the bonus. The answer is rarely, and we'll talk about why this is.

Redundant Things Of Interest Below

Final hours until blast off...

Big thanks to the many people who make BMR possible. Scoring many thousands of submission in near real time, Building themes, Building Apps, Creating Placards and countless other things. This rally only can happen because of ridiculously huge contributions by many.

Most likely, as a rider you've plotted some bonus destinations and maybe put a game-plan in place. There are a lot of ways to attack this rally. There is no way a person can do everything, -so it's a matter of choosing what works best for you and your personal goals. Whatever you choose, many will be cheering your efforts. This includes your peers/competitors who you'll find to be your biggest fans.

Efforts matter:
  • Picture-Match bonuses are often worth considerable points. There is strong criteria that needs to be met at the bonus location. Be sure you have a copy of the sample picture that you anticipate earning in your possession before leaving for any picture match bonuses. You can find all pictures in the galleries, links can be found under the bonus tab on the BMR site's menu.

  • There are some fun easy bonuses, including the church themes. Especially early in the rally they'll be plentiful and often in bunches. Don't let your excitement distract you from razor sharp efforts at each and every bonus location. No better way to get on the bad side of the scoring team and this event than not giving solid efforts AFTER you reach the bonus location. Pictures are important, and in this event your efforts are visible to all.

  • The smartphone apps are optional, but most riders find them very valuable. Note if on iPhone and using the default ios email program (app calls this Legacy), text is not passing through. This scenario is more of an Apple issue than anything else. This won't effect points, but if using the iPhone, you may want to be aware of it. For Kurt Worden and any others not using the apps, remember the DIC needs to be in all pictures. HIC needs to be in some of the themes.

  • If you are a late sign-up and your placard is not ready, you may use a temporary placard. Temporary placard can be last year's placard or a home-brew likeness of this year's. Temporary placard valid only until January 03.

  • Have Fun, be safe and we're all watching to see what great efforts we'll see when the clock hits 2020 RenoTime.

  • OH!, Lunch bucket to date:
    • Roger Van Santen buying lunch for winner of the SD Theme
    • RenoJohn is buying lunch for the winner of the CC Theme
    • Bob Rippy is buying lunch for the winner of the MC Theme
    • Brent Cornell is buying lunch for the winner of the BC Theme
    • Timmer Bowman (yep) is (also) buying lunch for the winner of the BC Theme.

Bonus listing 2019.12.30b is now available. Be sure to review thoroughly and carefully.

Before the distraction and frenzy of the points being released, now is a good time to go over some important things:

  • If you're not consistently posting to the site to practice, you are foolish. Note all posts will be purged before Jan 01 and we'll start with a clean slate.
  • If you are a recent sign up (Friday or later) you're in the queue and we'll do our best to have you ready to go by Jan01
  • A batch of new placards has been released, so all but recent sign-ups should have theirs. If there is an issue with your placard or it's not listed, please raise your hand.
  • BMR rider #1, Roger Van Santen has generously offered to buy lunch for the rider who finishes with the most SD | Seventh Day Adventist points.
  • RenoJohn will match that offer for the rider who finishes the rally with the most CC | Catholic Church points. Furthermore, if this rider's CC points are higher than the rider with the highest SD points, we'll forgo lunch and make it a steak dinner. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that the Catholics win the match-up against the Seventh Day Adventists.
  • Rider #84 Bob Rippy has joined Roger and will buy lunch for the rider who earns the most points in the MC | Methodist Church Theme
  • IF YOU ARE NEW TO BMR, please get on the phone with a veteran rider or staff member, including me. This rally is different than other events, the expectations are different, and there are nuances that are best learned the easy way. Don't be shy.

Please note that all past and present newsletters are available on the BMR website under the Groovy Tab

Do you see the light?

Focus on the rider. That is what we're doing this year as we create bonus themes and invest in the BMR infrastructure. We always try to improve what we have in place and slowly roll in new functionality. There are a lot of moving pieces to this event ...as we continually work to create a great event for riding enthusiasts -and this year we're particularly excited about the rally.

What you can expect in BMR2020:

  • HUGE bonus listing which will have thousands of destination bonuses. Likely the largest bonus listing in BMR history and considerably more than last year. The themes this year are inspiring, straight forward and fun.
  • Additionally, the "Gas & Tires" Theme is returning, and again it will compliment the weekly 3-day rallies that have become a popular part of BMR.
  • And of course the meat and potato staples that we all expect from BMR will be on the table as well.
  • 3,443 hours in length. Wow!, one of the longest BMRs ever! Start date = January 01; 2020
  • Camaraderie. Bonus listing and partnerships with other organizations will create great opportunities to share your moto-bike fun and enthusiasm. We will continue to bring riders together at a common place and time. If you have ideas, please raise your hand.

Behind the scenes (techy stuff we've invested in):

  • Improved bonus submission flow and architecture including new Exchange servers.
  • Improved architecture to comment and share submissions on the website. We anticipate this will help riders better share their fun -and to a certain extent even integrate to personal social media.
  • Improved newsletter email send architecture ...which should help newsletters make it to your inbox.
  • Improvements to the BMR smartphone apps. Justin Long continues to apply his skills and wonderful contributions to BMR and you'll be the recipient of some great enhancements to the apps. And a reminder, the apps can be nice tools, but as always they are not mandatory!, they are optional.
