Happy Easter from your friends at BMR.

Rarely do we pass an opportunity to poke a little fun at our friends in CA ..here one of their finest providing paper to the Easter Bunny. We're told it was just a warning. Things will get better for the bunny when he reaches our house in Nevada, the Austin clan loves the Easter Bunny and we eagerly anticipate his arrival!
Not going to spend this special day talking shop, but will float a few potential ideas being mulled around the conference table as we take inventory of the ever-changing environment.
  • DR "kicker" will change, the precise math won't be known for a while, until things settle down. But a basic idea is that whatever pace you were on late March will be consistent with where you'll be when things catch their stride again.
  • Many riders have rides on the table that they hope to do, but for most riders, current conditions don't make them prudent. It is very likely BMR will be extended this year, one option we're exploring is to move our end date to noon Saturday on Labor Day Weekend.
  • While we still hold some optimism with the current date, it is very possible that our finisher banquet will change calendar dates, and possibly even venue ....stay tuned. We are watching things closely and yesterday secured a "plan B" option ...and we will continue to explore options.
  • Things continue to change rapidly, and as promised we're not going to make knee jerk decisions. We'll continue to remind riders to make the best decisions for themselves, their family and their community. One thing that remains consistent, we are all affected differently.
  • We've put an emphasis on nationwide medical resources, that's where most agencies are focusing and where the most data is being crunched. Above is what most national health organizations are using, probably the ones in your area. You can click the image above to view data on your state, things change rapidly so if you put stock in these reports, check them often.
  • This data is changing, sometimes with HUGE swings. Late last week, many states data changed. Nevada went from a projected peak of April 19 to April 8th, meaning the medical experts believe NV peaked 4 days ago. That is good news but not a pass to be foolish. CA also had a huge swing and our friends are scheduled to peak tomorrow (April 13) this is aprox a 1.5 week advance. Much of the country is passed peak, but there are many regions in very very dire situations and certainly in need of our prayers and support. Some local nurses here are heading to NY to help where things are much more dire, our local hospital has the lowest occupancy in years ...by design they've been working hard to make room for worse case scenarios and that is consistent with many health facilities around the nation.
  • Only time will tell us for sure how this all unfolds, but personally I believe we're going to see this come in waves for 18 to 36 months. This virus seemingly spreads like wildfire. It *is* discriminatory. Data is showing many things influence who it affects most. Many of us may have had it and never even knew it, some of us it is very very very serious.
  • By now most all of us have personal friends acquaintances who have been affected. Our family knows people who have had it, some who currently have it and so far one who has died. A long time front line co-worker of Kathy's will be our first virus caused funeral. They'll be more. Please don't let it be you.
  • Keeping your body and mind in top form can't hurt. Yesterday we did an outing to our favorite place and got fresh air and reflected and shared quality time together. Here Grace at a special spot in northern Nevada.
For many, the prudent thing is to observe from indoors. Thumbs-up to all the riders making the best decisions for their unique situation. Everyone one of us is affected differently.

BMR was social distancing before it was common place.
And since the pandemic, rider activity has gone down more than national averages. Based on the stat's from our friends at Google who have publicly shared national smart phone travel data ...which we can compare against our own BMR rider activity. We applaud those making the best decisions. For many it is not fun or easy, but doing the right thing for yourself, your family and your community will be rewarded in real life, karma is real.

Changes around us....

Increasingly the changes don't open up prudent riding options.

For many of us, time/distance calculations are almost a part of our DNA, we can't help ourselves, ...we apply math to everything.

The COVID-19 math is pretty interesting. We have such limited data, ...and we get reminded of how limited the data is by how often the models change.

Many health facilities use the Institute for Health Metrics (IHME) and their models to make the best decisions possible. These IHME models are likely the most popular source of info for the agencies in your area, and seemingly the most respected overall. Johns Hopkins models also get high marks and are also popular.

Not perfect. But, these models do provide a lot of information and they may help you make more prudent decisions. If you take stalk in these models, check them regularly as they are far from static! They change frequently!!
Above image is link to IHME website which you may find to be a helpful tool for prudent decisions.

BMR Continues To Stream Biker Flicks.

Many of us can use some comic relief and/or fill time that would normally be spent on the bike. ....so
**BMR is streaming videos, mostly obscure videos that are difficult to find elsewhere.
BMR has a strong infrastructure to share pics and videos outside of the chaos of social media. If you have a video or something you'd like to share with other BMR participants, please do so!

Be Mindful

  • We'll say it again. Make prudent decisions that are best for you, your family and your community. This varies for all of us based on many factors. We trust and back whatever you do. Your track record of safe decision making has earned you respect from this event.

  • Don't be shy to post up PP submissions of nice things. We all are happy when we have the opportunity to smile. When you see an act of kindness, a beautiful sunset, a good looking motorcycle ..or something funny: Take a picture and share the smile with us. Please don't forward others pictures or memes, make it original from the lens of your phone.

BMR 2020 Banquet

UPDATE 04/01 ...We remain confident that our banquet in Minden will go on as planned. In fact, CVI hotel is currently in operation, but of course we're monitoring everything and even casually exploring other options should it be prudent do so.

BMR 2020 Banquet will be in Minden Nevada. We feel fortunate that we're able to return to our roots -and the location of the first three BMR banquets (2012, 2013, 2014). We had other locations on the short list, including Grand Junction CO, but the stars lined up for us to return to Minden.

We opened soft registration for testing a week ago, and already we have riders from the east coast and other locations registered. We're excited to be returning to Minden and the Carson Valley Inn, it's a great location and very popular in past years. You want to make this banquet if at all possible. And don't delay, as our block of rooms will most certainly get filled and it's first come first serve. Any questions, reach out to RenoJohn.

AMA Hall Of Fame, ..just one of the many accomplishments on the resume of our guest speaker at BMR 2020 banquet.

Missouri Rally

June 5 @ 5:00 am - June 6 @ 6:00 pm
The NIITWIT group is launching yet another rally for your enjoyment. The Missouri Rally will begin and end in, you guessed it, Missouri! Centrally located approximately a one day ride from either Salt Lake City or the Atlantic seaboard, this 37 hour rally offers the great plains, Ozark mountains, national forests, slabs and backroads. The inaugural theme will be Insurrection and will feature civil war sites with a playing field ranging from Minnesota to Mississippi and Colorado to Pennsylvania. The Missouri Rally is intended to be a fun rally for the first time rally rider (we’re trying to be a gateway drug), as well as a tough routing exercise that will challenge veteran riders.
The rally dates are June 5-6, 2020. Registration is open soon on Ride Master. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email Bob Bowman at missourirally@gmail.com.

**YES BMR veteran and good guy #002 MOBOB BOWMAN is putting on a great rally this summer and it promises to be a grand time. If you live between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean and you're not signed up for this you are retarded. Please add this to your summer riding schedule, don't be on the sidelines.

Activity Report is a good place to see action between any time window you want. Buttons in place for some obvious ones, but you can set any window you want in the URL.

Another Year of Great Folks! See some of your peers!

There will be much more to report in the coming days, as the first three day rally takes shape, and we take inventory of how riders are attacking the various themes. Topic for next newsletter will include: In BMR Bonus Submission, when do you want your motorcycle between you and the bonus. The answer is rarely, and we'll talk about why this is.

Please note that all past and present newsletters are available on the BMR website under the Groovy Tab

Do you see the light?

Focus on the rider. That is what we're doing this year as we create bonus themes and invest in the BMR infrastructure. We always try to improve what we have in place and slowly roll in new functionality. There are a lot of moving pieces to this event ...as we continually work to create a great event for riding enthusiasts -and this year we're particularly excited about the rally.

What you can expect in BMR2020:

  • HUGE bonus listing which will have thousands of destination bonuses. Likely the largest bonus listing in BMR history and considerably more than last year. The themes this year are inspiring, straight forward and fun.
  • Additionally, the "Gas & Tires" Theme is returning, and again it will compliment the weekly 3-day rallies that have become a popular part of BMR.
  • And of course the meat and potato staples that we all expect from BMR will be on the table as well.
  • 3,443 hours in length. Wow!, one of the longest BMRs ever! Start date = January 01; 2020
  • Camaraderie. Bonus listing and partnerships with other organizations will create great opportunities to share your moto-bike fun and enthusiasm. We will continue to bring riders together at a common place and time. If you have ideas, please raise your hand.

Behind the scenes (techy stuff we've invested in):

  • Improved bonus submission flow and architecture including new Exchange servers.
  • Improved architecture to comment and share submissions on the website. We anticipate this will help riders better share their fun -and to a certain extent even integrate to personal social media.
  • Improved newsletter email send architecture ...which should help newsletters make it to your inbox.
  • Improvements to the BMR smartphone apps. Justin Long continues to apply his skills and wonderful contributions to BMR and you'll be the recipient of some great enhancements to the apps. And a reminder, the apps can be nice tools, but as always they are not mandatory!, they are optional.
