May Day 2020

It's May 01, and today we'll share our path as we navigate forward the best we can based on events of the past, current situation and smart guesstimates on the future.

Trust me when I tell you that there has been a lot of thought, data crunching, and conversations among BMR stakeholders -as we navigate slowly and thoughtfully.

  • Government Restrictions, BMR dumbing down incentives and each of us applying our individual common sense.
    • All combined have changed the BMR landscape and made 2020 unlike any other BMR event.
While we focus on BMR, ...It pales to real life, and many of our peers are facing various real-life challenges. Many of your BMR peers have had unexpected job challenges including job loss. Economic challenges are real at every level. And, it's far from over. Be sure to share good thoughts and wishes and create positive experiences for those around you. For many of us, time on the bike is the best way to share positive things and create positive energy. It's what we do best.

Individual common sense and government restrictions at multiple levels vary by the inch.. There is not a golden rule to fit all. Kudos to all those who have used their best judgement for their situation. Not easy choices for many and it's hard as this event is based on the ideal of creating reasons to ride.

There are many riders who have had long-planned rides curtailed. Rides they've already invested time and resources to do ...but haven't been able to pull the trigger.

With this in mind, we're continuing to make slow and steady changes, we'll continue to work hard to avoid knee-jerk decisions ..but there are big decisions being announced today:

[x] BMR has been extended until Labor Day Weekend. Current plan is to wrap it up on noon Saturday Sept 5 with banquet to follow.
[x] BMR banquet has been changed/moved to Labor Day Weekend. Same venue is in place.
[x] The awesome people who have signed-up/paid for the banquet, your hotel reservations have already been moved. No action is required on your end. If you have paid for the banquet and don't see it as viable for you, ping me directly and you will get a 100% Instant refund. If the new date works better for you and you're not signed up ...we'll make room for you ...sign up.

In the coming days, we will continue as we have the last many weeks.
In the weeks ahead more firewood (bonuses) will be delivered. These will come in the form of
-Extended WD/WH and DR themes.
-Additional themes.
-Return of RJ theme and new RJ bonuses

Each Rider Is Responsible For Making The Best Decisions For Their Unique Environment and Circumstances. Be smart for yourself and others.

Riding the last weeks

For some, -riding was in the cards and many of us cheered from the bleachers and sidelines.
-Great to see Kurt Worden back on the bike and he was busy after a long absence.
-One rider who seems especially fond of using his bike to social distance is Tom Lettero. Tom was the first rider to earn QTY18 DR bonuses. Tom doesn't like to use the kickstand unless many hours from home. Congratulation Tom on some big miles in the last weeks and as I type this, you're now at qty 19 DR bonuses.
Dr. VanSanten stayed busy too. But unlike Tom, Roger modified his riding and stayed close to home and scrapped on a near daily basis picking up a little thing here and there ...it all adds up. Perhaps staying close to home is how many riders will pick back up.

Because this is an individual event, and we're all geographically diverse, it gives us advantages and disadvantages. The hard part is keeping things as fair as possible ..but we're going to try knowing that absolute fairness in BMR or life is not possible.
New bonuses will be placed first in areas that are under the fewest restrictions and have not received much prior BMR love. Good news if you live in Western Canada or Sweden. Also good news if you're willing to commute to these soon to be released bonuses.
We hope sooner than later more domestic firewood will be delivered.

DR threshold. Final math hasn't been applied, but the kicker for reaching the DR threshold hasn't been established, but in simple terms we'll remove the weeks where riding for the majority was not prudent and scale accordingly. If you were on pace late March, you'll likely be in descent shape as things loosen up.

While things are loosening up for many, -not everyone has a pass to go ride. It is my belief (and let's hope I'm wrong) that we're in for waves of this new coronavirus for the next 18 to 36 months.

Not until herd immunity is reached will we see significant hot-spots go away. We certainly will see waves in the immediate future, and these waves will trigger new rounds of government restrictions and our individual common sense will always have to be applied. Again, these will vary for everyone on an individual basis with geography playing a big role.

Here in Nevada we've been economically hammered. It's very sad to see so many people out of work and business forced to shut. We have no immediate plans for this to turn on any significant scale.
BTW: Nationally, many nurses and doctors are out of work and taking pay cuts like never before. Most hospitals are at record low occupancy. It is estimated that 40% of us will see our dentist go out of business within the next 18months. Wow.
And we all know, it's not just medical professionals feeling the pain. Service industry worker are in dire economic position ...and the list goes on, damn near everyone is affected.
Don't discount the goodness you can bring to people when you are out on the bike, your attitude your kindness and your generosity will be appreciated like never before. So tip an extra buck for that coffee. And when you're back home ...get those knees replaced so you're strong on the bike next season...or tell your dentist you want the best looking teeth in your biker gang and set that appointment.
For many, the prudent thing is to observe from indoors. Thumbs-up to all the riders making the best decisions for their unique situation. Everyone one of us is affected differently.

BMR was social distancing before it was common place.
And since the pandemic, rider activity has gone down more than national averages. Based on the stat's from our friends at Google who have publicly shared national smart phone travel data ...which we can compare against our own BMR rider activity. We applaud those making the best decisions. For many it is not fun or easy, but doing the right thing for yourself, your family and your community will be rewarded in real life, karma is real.

BMR Continues To Stream Biker Flicks.

We got distracted but fresh biker movies are coming fast and with a fury!
Many of us can use some comic relief and/or fill time that would normally be spent on the bike. ....so
**BMR is streaming videos, mostly obscure videos that are difficult to find elsewhere.
BMR has a strong infrastructure to share pics and videos outside of the chaos of social media. If you have a video or something you'd like to share with other BMR participants, please do so!

Be Mindful

  • We'll say it again. Make prudent decisions that are best for you, your family and your community. This varies for all of us based on many factors. We trust and back whatever you do. Your track record of safe decision making has earned you respect from this event.

  • Don't be shy to post up PP submissions of nice things. We all are happy when we have the opportunity to smile. When you see an act of kindness, a beautiful sunset, a good looking motorcycle ..or something funny: Take a picture and share the smile with us. Please don't forward others pictures or memes, make it original from the lens of your phone.

BMR 2020 Banquet

UPDATE 05/01 ...Banquet date has been moved to September -Labor Day Weekend.

BMR 2020 Banquet will be in Minden Nevada. We feel fortunate that we're able to return to our roots -and the location of the first three BMR banquets (2012, 2013, 2014). We had other locations on the short list, including Grand Junction CO, but the stars lined up for us to return to Minden.

We opened soft registration for testing a week ago, and already we have riders from the east coast and other locations registered. We're excited to be returning to Minden and the Carson Valley Inn, it's a great location and very popular in past years. You want to make this banquet if at all possible. And don't delay, as our block of rooms will most certainly get filled and it's first come first serve. Any questions, reach out to RenoJohn.

AMA Hall Of Fame, ..just one of the many accomplishments on the resume of our guest speaker at BMR 2020 banquet.

Redundant Things Of Interest Below

Have you signed up for a STREETMASTERS course yet? Don't be dumb, this is a great way to improve your skills hence improve your enjoyment of moto-bike fun.

Missouri Rally

June 5 @ 5:00 am - June 6 @ 6:00 pm
The NIITWIT group is launching yet another rally for your enjoyment. The Missouri Rally will begin and end in, you guessed it, Missouri! Centrally located approximately a one day ride from either Salt Lake City or the Atlantic seaboard, this 37 hour rally offers the great plains, Ozark mountains, national forests, slabs and backroads. The inaugural theme will be Insurrection and will feature civil war sites with a playing field ranging from Minnesota to Mississippi and Colorado to Pennsylvania. The Missouri Rally is intended to be a fun rally for the first time rally rider (we’re trying to be a gateway drug), as well as a tough routing exercise that will challenge veteran riders.
The rally dates are June 5-6, 2020. Registration is open soon on Ride Master. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email Bob Bowman at missourirally@gmail.com.

**YES BMR veteran and good guy #002 MOBOB BOWMAN is putting on a great rally this summer and it promises to be a grand time. If you live between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean and you're not signed up for this you are retarded. Please add this to your summer riding schedule, don't be on the sidelines.

Activity Report is a good place to see action between any time window you want. Buttons in place for some obvious ones, but you can set any window you want in the URL.

Another Year of Great Folks! See some of your peers!

There will be much more to report in the coming days, as the first three day rally takes shape, and we take inventory of how riders are attacking the various themes. Topic for next newsletter will include: In BMR Bonus Submission, when do you want your motorcycle between you and the bonus. The answer is rarely, and we'll talk about why this is.

Please note that all past and present newsletters are available on the BMR website under the Groovy Tab

Do you see the light?

Focus on the rider. That is what we're doing this year as we create bonus themes and invest in the BMR infrastructure. We always try to improve what we have in place and slowly roll in new functionality. There are a lot of moving pieces to this event ...as we continually work to create a great event for riding enthusiasts -and this year we're particularly excited about the rally.

What you can expect in BMR2020:

  • HUGE bonus listing which will have thousands of destination bonuses. Likely the largest bonus listing in BMR history and considerably more than last year. The themes this year are inspiring, straight forward and fun.
  • Additionally, the "Gas & Tires" Theme is returning, and again it will compliment the weekly 3-day rallies that have become a popular part of BMR.
  • And of course the meat and potato staples that we all expect from BMR will be on the table as well.
  • 3,443 hours in length. Wow!, one of the longest BMRs ever! Start date = January 01; 2020
  • Camaraderie. Bonus listing and partnerships with other organizations will create great opportunities to share your moto-bike fun and enthusiasm. We will continue to bring riders together at a common place and time. If you have ideas, please raise your hand.

Behind the scenes (techy stuff we've invested in):

  • Improved bonus submission flow and architecture including new Exchange servers.
  • Improved architecture to comment and share submissions on the website. We anticipate this will help riders better share their fun -and to a certain extent even integrate to personal social media.
  • Improved newsletter email send architecture ...which should help newsletters make it to your inbox.
  • Improvements to the BMR smartphone apps. Justin Long continues to apply his skills and wonderful contributions to BMR and you'll be the recipient of some great enhancements to the apps. And a reminder, the apps can be nice tools, but as always they are not mandatory!, they are optional.
