January 01 to September 05. OH MY!

Who would have guessed a riding event that is already too long is now extended to 248 days +13 hours in duration. And for much of that span we're each applying common sense and good choices as they apply to our own situation as independent participants in this event.

Crazy is an understatement as we try to define all we're seeing in the world during this year's BMR.

Here is what things look like going forward. This news-blast will not be all inclusive, but we'll give you all the details that we can provide at this point. Where we don't have all the details, we'll give you hints on what you might expect. Be prepared for more information, much of which will be in the upcoming revised bonus listing.

Let's start with a calendar:

2020.05.23 12:00 noon. This was the original end to BMR2020. That is not the case, the rally is being extended due to the current world pandemic that has, is and will continue to sideline various riders to various extents. This end date has been extended to September 5; 12:00 noon. We will have a link showing scoring status at what would have been the end of the rally for all to view and reflect on the first phase of the rally.

2020.05.23(ish) Revised bonus listing available to review. It will contain considerable new bonus themes, We'll sometimes refer to these new themes as "phase two". You will have time to review phase two as we all reflect on our nation's fallen military personnel. More details on the revised listing will follow below.

2020.05.26 New Themes become "live". On May 26 you can earn the new themes, DO NOT attempt to earn any new theme before May26 and remember DIC codes are required in ALL BMR submissions.

2020.09.05 12:00 noon End of BMR2020 (Finally!)

Let's talk about the revised bonus listing.

While we had planned to introduce new themes to the original bonus listing, doing so never seemed prudent. Even after deciding to extend the rally, it became our belief that it best to introduce new themes after the original time frame had expired, -as around the country things continued to be inconsistent due to the pandemic. We anticipate the inconsistencies to continue, we praise you all for making prudent decisions as they apply to YOU and we have faith that you'll continue to do so.

BIG THANKS to the theme sponsors who stepped up and provided new themes. With the exception of one (really bad) theme all of your efforts, time and skill are appreciated more than you know. Participants please be ever present in your appreciation for the efforts and smarts that go into all these themes (less the bad one).

Here are some important notes:
  • First phase bonus themes that were not time sensitive are still on the table. You can continue to earn them. So your Airport (AF/FA) themes, Church Themes, Up a Creek Theme and many other themes are STILL available and will continue to be available until 2020.09.05 noon.
  • WD WH themes may be come back with a different flair as we potentially experiment with slightly different concepts. You may also get a vacation from these two themes. A lot of moving pieces continue to be in the works as we explore the best scenario for riders and the event.
  • DR theme (center piece of the 3-day rallies) will continue with NEW bonuses going forward each week. You will get all bonuses for all weeks within the release of phase two themes. Big Thanks to Gary Andrew who spun up the new phase two DR bonuses and was able to keep the same concept. Teaser pics of control images for new DR theme bonuses here
  • DR Theme "kicker" points: The criteria has been modified, the point value has been modified. Details in the revised bonus listing.
  • Week 21 Three Day Rally / DR Theme was to end on 2020.05.23 noon. To keep consistency with the other weeks, week 21 will now end on 2020.05.24 23:59:59 (midnight). In other words, week 21 Three Day Rally will end this Sunday night, not this Saturday at noon.
Hints on new phase two themes:
  • There is a theme that focuses on Western Canada that is delicious. Whether it is accessible or prudent ...well, only time will tell -but we're optimistic. For our Canadian riders they will finally get to earn BMR bonuses in above freezing temperatures.
  • There is a Scenic Byways theme that is amazing. It will compliment all the other themes very well and it is a real treat. We're very excited to bring this theme to riders and we know riders will appreciate this theme. Another flagship theme compliments of Tim Allen.
  • Religious names. This is an interesting theme that Nancy Foote took the lead on, and later Gary Andrew spent considerable time shaping. IT IS NOT EASY. Additionally be sure to read the fine print, tombstones, plaques etc WILL NOT be considered permanent signage in this theme.
  • Your Diner. Work behind the scenes and your contributions are shaping this theme. It remains to be seen what the final offering will look like. But, be prepared for this theme to be spoon fed to riders AND play an instrumental role in phase two RJ bonuses that will be introduced. Stay tuned.
  • Apologies in advance. Stephen Vook and Justin Long both, came up with an identical theme concept and worked independently of each other as they created their themes. BMR merged the two themes into one. It sucks. It is a terrible theme, but not as bad as Stephen's bird theme of a few years back. The only reason we're including this theme is due to the fact that Stephen and Justin are appreciated contributors to this event. But mostly we're including this theme because it makes all our other themes look even better in comparison.

Upcoming BMR Theme Needs YOUR Help!
YD001
With BMR2020 being extended, new themes will soon be released. One of the themes is a very interesting concept. We have high expectations that this theme may grow into something long term.

The COVID-19 government shutdowns have put an estimated 10,000,000 restaurant employees out of work. Many of your favorite establishments are on the brink of closing permanently. We want to bring grass-root exposure and stimulus to your favorite diners that have been impacted. Kudos to Tom Lettero for the idea.

We can't do this without YOUR help. For this to work we need YOUR help identifying diners worthy of becoming bonuses in our new YD | "Your Diner" bonus theme.

Truthfully, here at BMR HQ ...we don't have our brains completely around how this theme may mature and evolve, but we're following the spirit of https://rerf.us/ as we navigate this theme concept forward. This theme will be massaged/tweaked as it matures and we learn.

Your thoughtful diner suggestions will be reviewed and many will make it to the YD | Your Diner picture-match theme. We are now accepting your thoughtful suggestions.

We anticipate this theme to be dynamic, with new bonuses continually added. We anticipate this theme going live sometime in May 2020.
Inside
For many, the prudent thing is to observe from indoors. Thumbs-up to all the riders making the best decisions for their unique situation. Everyone one of us is affected differently.

BMR was social distancing before it was common place.
And since the pandemic, rider activity has gone down more than national averages. Based on the stat's from our friends at Google who have publicly shared national smart phone travel data ...which we can compare against our own BMR rider activity. We applaud those making the best decisions. For many it is not fun or easy, but doing the right thing for yourself, your family and your community will be rewarded in real life, karma is real.

BMR Continues To Stream Biker Flicks.

We got distracted but fresh biker movies are coming fast and with a fury!
Many of us can use some comic relief and/or fill time that would normally be spent on the bike. ....so
**BMR is streaming videos, mostly obscure videos that are difficult to find elsewhere.
girl.motorcycle
BMR has a strong infrastructure to share pics and videos outside of the chaos of social media. If you have a video or something you'd like to share with other BMR participants, please do so!

Be Mindful

  • We'll say it again. Make prudent decisions that are best for you, your family and your community. This varies for all of us based on many factors. We trust and back whatever you do. Your track record of safe decision making has earned you respect from this event.

  • Don't be shy to post up PP submissions of nice things. We all are happy when we have the opportunity to smile. When you see an act of kindness, a beautiful sunset, a good looking motorcycle ..or something funny: Take a picture and share the smile with us. Please don't forward others pictures or memes, make it original from the lens of your phone.

BMR 2020 Banquet

UPDATE 05/01 ...Banquet date has been moved to September -Labor Day Weekend.

BMR 2020 Banquet will be in Minden Nevada. We feel fortunate that we're able to return to our roots -and the location of the first three BMR banquets (2012, 2013, 2014). We had other locations on the short list, including Grand Junction CO, but the stars lined up for us to return to Minden.

CVI
We opened soft registration for testing a week ago, and already we have riders from the east coast and other locations registered. We're excited to be returning to Minden and the Carson Valley Inn, it's a great location and very popular in past years. You want to make this banquet if at all possible. And don't delay, as our block of rooms will most certainly get filled and it's first come first serve. Any questions, reach out to RenoJohn.

AMA Hall Of Fame, ..just one of the many accomplishments on the resume of our guest speaker at BMR 2020 banquet.

Missouri Rally

June 5 @ 5:00 am - June 6 @ 6:00 pm
The NIITWIT group is launching yet another rally for your enjoyment. The Missouri Rally will begin and end in, you guessed it, Missouri! Centrally located approximately a one day ride from either Salt Lake City or the Atlantic seaboard, this 37 hour rally offers the great plains, Ozark mountains, national forests, slabs and backroads. The inaugural theme will be Insurrection and will feature civil war sites with a playing field ranging from Minnesota to Mississippi and Colorado to Pennsylvania. The Missouri Rally is intended to be a fun rally for the first time rally rider (we’re trying to be a gateway drug), as well as a tough routing exercise that will challenge veteran riders.
The rally dates are June 5-6, 2020. Registration is open soon on Ride Master. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email Bob Bowman at missourirally@gmail.com.

**YES BMR veteran and good guy #002 MOBOB BOWMAN is putting on a great rally this summer and it promises to be a grand time. If you live between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean and you're not signed up for this you are retarded. Please add this to your summer riding schedule, don't be on the sidelines.

Activity Report is a good place to see action between any time window you want. Buttons in place for some obvious ones, but you can set any window you want in the URL.

Another Year of Great Folks! See some of your peers!

There will be much more to report in the coming days, as the first three day rally takes shape, and we take inventory of how riders are attacking the various themes. Topic for next newsletter will include: In BMR Bonus Submission, when do you want your motorcycle between you and the bonus. The answer is rarely, and we'll talk about why this is.

Please note that all past and present newsletters are available on the BMR website under the Groovy Tab

Do you see the light?

Focus on the rider. That is what we're doing this year as we create bonus themes and invest in the BMR infrastructure. We always try to improve what we have in place and slowly roll in new functionality. There are a lot of moving pieces to this event ...as we continually work to create a great event for riding enthusiasts -and this year we're particularly excited about the rally.

What you can expect in BMR2020:

  • HUGE bonus listing which will have thousands of destination bonuses. Likely the largest bonus listing in BMR history and considerably more than last year. The themes this year are inspiring, straight forward and fun.
  • Additionally, the "Gas & Tires" Theme is returning, and again it will compliment the weekly 3-day rallies that have become a popular part of BMR.
  • And of course the meat and potato staples that we all expect from BMR will be on the table as well.
  • 3,443 hours in length. Wow!, one of the longest BMRs ever! Start date = January 01; 2020
  • Camaraderie. Bonus listing and partnerships with other organizations will create great opportunities to share your moto-bike fun and enthusiasm. We will continue to bring riders together at a common place and time. If you have ideas, please raise your hand.

Behind the scenes (techy stuff we've invested in):

  • Improved bonus submission flow and architecture including new Exchange servers.
  • Improved architecture to comment and share submissions on the website. We anticipate this will help riders better share their fun -and to a certain extent even integrate to personal social media.
  • Improved newsletter email send architecture ...which should help newsletters make it to your inbox.
  • Improvements to the BMR smartphone apps. Justin Long continues to apply his skills and wonderful contributions to BMR and you'll be the recipient of some great enhancements to the apps. And a reminder, the apps can be nice tools, but as always they are not mandatory!, they are optional.
